The WOODEN chair.

During this part of the project we were to create a chair out of wood. The chair was supposed to express a minimalistic view of how a chair would be made. These pictures show the outcome of the chair that I designed and then proceeded to create out of wood.

Cardboard Chairs.

These pictures express some of the work that went into creating the cardboard chairs. At first we had to make a chair that had no glue and was created out of a 4' x 4' piece of cardboard. We were not aloud to take any material away and it was supposed to fold out into one piece again when it was finished. The next chair that we made we a little more difficult and had to go along with a story that we were expressing. Over all, I learned a lot about the material and ways that things can be made.

Creating the model.

This is the mood board that I created to show what my tree house would be like. We were supposed to pick a persona that we would create the tree house for, but I decided that I wanted to create the tree house for myself. If I were to create a tree house for myself it would be somewhere that I would be able to get away from things and enjoy nature. I named my tree house the secret spot and added a saying that says "a place to go relax, enjoy nature, and get away."
I built my model as a log cabin because I liked how it had a nature feeling to it. I didn't want it to look too fancy because the purpose is to enjoy being in nature. I left one side of the tree house open to get the fresh air and to be able to look outside at everything that is going on. I also included a stained glass window on the top of the tree house for lighting and for a little style. I really liked the idea of a spiral staircase and the tree that I picked was perfect for that because the branches start towards the bottom of the tree circling upwards.

Figuring out what tree I want.

During class I decided that I wanted to go with a secretive theme to my tree house. I decided that the best way to express this would be to pick a tree that you would be able to hide in. The tree that I chose is a willow tree because when the leaves on the tree are full, they touch the ground and hide the inside of the tree. The above pictures are what I took to get a better understanding of how the tree was shaped so that I could make a model from it.

Regrouping during class.

Today during class we pinned up some of our sketches and the posters that we made for homework. We talked about the next step of creating a model and mood boards to get a better idea of specifics.

Creating a tree house brainstorming.

For homework we were to create a poster of our ideas with words and pictures to help us generate ideas for our sketches.

Group Photo

This is our group for the project. In class today we did presentations of the powerpoint and videos that each group created in order to have constructive criticism. The criticism was to help us shape the direction that we now need to go to complete the project and fix the problems that we found through out the building.

Way Finding Project Update

For our project we decided to pick Bailey Hall because of the issues that we found by walking through the building.

The first problem that we found was the main entry way did not explain what floor you were on and what floor you would be traveling to when you took the stairs.

The next problem that we found was that there was no way of organizing the classrooms on each floor. We were not sure which direction to go to find our classroom.

Next the signs showing which direction the classrooms are were above the door and not at a reasonable height.

The last problem was that our room number was hidden behind a bunch of folders and was not within view down the hall way.

Over all, we had a lot of problems that needed signage and the next step is trying to figure out the best way to represent signs to help direct people to the classrooms through out the building.
